Four kids in a Tigard home were alerted to a fire Friday morning by someone who saw smoke coming from the roof.
The kids' parents were on vacation. KATU News reports that one of the children was 18 years old and taking care of the siblings.
Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue firefighters responded to the fire at 11925 SW Morning Hill Drive in Tigard. On arrival firefighters found heavy black smoke coming from the eaves and fire blowing out an attic vent. Crews made an aggressive attack of the fire and had the bulk of the flames extinguished within approximately 20 minutes. During the course of fire attack, one corner of the roof began to collapse, but firefighters quickly gained control to prevent further collapse. Approximately 23 firefighters responded to the incident.
No one was injured in the fire.
Investigators are working to determine the cause.
