Grass fire stopped before burning trees

Nearly 60 firefighters spent four hours Sunday working to stop a grass fire in Northeast Salem.  It was burning near 119th Avenue NE and State St., east of Salem.

It was started by a property owner who was clearing debris and burning stumps let the fire get out of control.

Three alarms were called bringing crews from Stayton, Sublimity, Turner, Jefferson, Aumsville, Silverton, Mt. Angel, Woodburn, Keizer & Salem.

The fire burned six acres.  No homes were damaged.
