Nonprofit Helpline Targets Veterans

The Portland-based nonprofit organization Lines for Life wants veterans of all ages to know about its Military Helpline. It offers free, anonymous help to veterans dealing with with issues that often crop up when they return from deployment.

Trained crisis specialists, many with military backgrounds, answer calls 24/7, every day of the year. They provide a safe, confidential place for military or ex-military members and their families to talk about mental health or substance abuse issues, and get connected to services and benefits that might otherwise be difficult to access.

Help is available online at www.militaryhelpline.org, or calling toll-free: 888-457-4838. Vets can also get help by texting "MIL1" to: 839863.
