Portland Officials Delay Vote On Homeless Camp

Residents of the Right To Dream Too homeless camp will have to wait another week to find out whether they'll be moving to a permanent home anytime soon.

Wednesday, the Portland City Council delayed the vote on an ordinance to accept more than 800-thousand dollars from Pearl District developers to relocate the tent city that now sits on a lot at Fourth and West Burnside.

Camp residents were disappointed that Commissioner Dan Saltzman asked for the one week delay.  He wants to research how the money would be spent, who would own the property and what kind of use agreement would govern the camp.  The ordinance would support the Portland Development Commission's use of the money for the possible purchase of a lot under the Broadway Bridge for the homeless community.
